Jacqueline Herrera-Giron (JD '03) Follows Her Heart in Immigration Law

"The parents of my students were immigrants and I knew the issues they were facing, so I went back to school and got my law degree from John Marshall Law School in 2003," she said.

Her expertise is immigration law. There followed a series of jobs with not-for-profit organizations, such as Refugee One, the National Justice Immigration Center and Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights. With Refugee One, Herrera-Giron was dealing with political asylum cases and said, "It opened up a world that I did not even know about, countries I had never heard of, such as Eritrea in Africa."
